Everyone knows that though the holidays are filled with cheer and happiness. But it’s hard not to have some stress involved in it, unfortunately. Lots of that stress comes when you realize that you have agreed to make 4 (or however many it may be) dishes for your family’s Thanksgiving. All the sudden you realize that you have to fit a cheesecake, and pumpkin pie, in the oven at the same time at two different temperatures. The other two dishes involve lots of labor and time. And then you think, “How am I ever going to get this done in time?!”.
So I thought I’d post a few tips in making your dishes easier.
Tips:
1. If a dish involves shredded cheese, shred it a day or two before and put it in a zip bag. If you are very concerned about the cheese shreds sticking together you may add a tablespoon (at most) of flour to the cheese, so there isn’t any chance of it sticking together. This is time saving and you don’t have to spend extra money on pre-shredded cheese.
2. Make one of the desserts or cold dishes, the night before the big day.
3. Cut vegetables or cheese ahead of time and store them in the fridge (with water if they are vegetable), if you are making a vegetable or cheese tray.
4.If you are making cut-out cookies make the dough up to two days before, and keep it in the refrigerator. Remove the dough 1-2 hours before you need to roll out the dough though.
5. If you are making a dish that involves lots of cutting, try using/buying a non-electric dicer. You can load it up with whatever you need cut, and chop, with the button provided. These are easy to clean up and save you so much time and tears (if you are chopping onions).
I hope these tips help you with your thanksgiving plans whether you are hosting or attending.
Have a happy holiday everyone.
